Television presenter Adam Henson will officially open the new premises for Abergavenny and Newport livestock market on Friday 29th November at Bryngwyn, near Raglan, Monmouthshire. The site, which is seven miles from Abergavenny, comprises a livestock sale facility which can accommodate up to 3, sheep and cattle.

It will take over business from the current town centre location on December 17th. Keith Spencer, Company Secretary of the newly-formed Monmouthshire Livestock Auctioneers, said the new state-of-the-art facilities will be able to cope with the market's current throughput and should attract new business as well.
With the closure of Monmouth market in and Newport in , the volume of livestock has become too large for our current premises. The current site is to be sold off for a supermarket development in Abergavenny town centre. Chris Dodds, Executive Secretary of the Livestock Auctioneers Association, said the move reflected a general trend in the industry of modernisation.
Their new facility is well-placed to meet the challenges of the future and I wish them every success," he said. In the last ten years there have been developments or relocations at Cockermouth, Thirsk, Rugby, Cirencester and Aberystwyth and more recently at Hereford, Wigton, Sedgemoor and Welshpool and Holsworthy are in the process of being re-located, and Chelford, Darlington and Barnard Castle have upgrade plans in the pipeline.
