Could you just kill these monsters outside of slayer tasks? Well, Slayer is a long skill. When you achieve 99 Slayer, you'll most likely have around maxed combat, and if you pick up all of the drops you'll make a TON of GP for other buyables or whatever you want to buy.

It's the most efficient way to train combat unless you're already 99 Slayer. It's really sad but slayer is the easiest and most effective way to make money lol. You could buy bonds if you wanted to. If you get good at bossing there's also very good money but might take awhile for it to become efficient.

Slayer is really efficient since you get tons of xp in several skills and you also get money, but for purely money, it's actually not that great compared to a lot of high level bosses. Armor and weapons only seem overpriced because everything is inflated. Slayer and Hunter are good ways to start making money, then later on bosses are easily a few mil per hour, with QBD probably being the most static. For slayer just training the skill is enough to make money from it, picking up valuable drops.

The only items that are expensive are T90's and even then they've plummeted recently and being end game gear they're not that expensive.
